Merrie in the Studio

For 37 years I have been painting and making art. After earning a BFA in painting from the University of Michigan, I moved to New York City where I continued my studies, taking classes at the NY Academy of Figurative Art, The Art Students League, and the School of Visual Arts. During this time I sold work through my business, “Artwork For Public Spaces”, making commissioned pieces for restaurants, nightclubs, and neighborhood billboards in Manhattan. Later, while continuing to paint, I became an art educator and taught at Winston Prep School for 22 years, both in New York City and in Whippany, NJ. I have an ongoing series of female heroes that feature large-scale oil portraits of legendary women artists. In 2021 I had a solo show titled “Heartworn Places” at Montclair State University’s LAB studio. The series was also a part of the BID Windows show in Montclair, NJ. This featured oil paintings of domestic objects and explored their unexpected beauty in our lives. I am also involved with Studio Montclair in helping to install and prepare shows, as well as contributing to them. I am currently a full time painter, and can be found at work in my studio everyday.  My series of Women artists will be on display at The Gallery at The Papermill Playhouse until March 19th.
